La Villa Domergue

Formerly Villa Fiesole. Built in 1934 on land acquired at the foot of La Californie by Jean-Gabriel Domergue, who was greatly influenced by the Italian style. The painter designed the building and decoration down to the last detail, while his wife, a sculptor, created the terraced gardens, complete with ponds and waterfalls. Jean-Gabriel Domergue died in 1962 and Odette Maudrange-Domergue bequeathed the property to the City of Cannes in 1973. In accordance with the wishes expressed by the couple during their lifetime, their bodies, which until then had been buried in the Grand Jas cemetery, were transferred to the villa in November 2000.
