Maritime park

An exceptional site...

Created in 2018, this is the department’s 1st Maritime Park. This 353-hectare site, which has been allocated to the Conservatoire du Littoral and is located in the commune of Théoule-sur-Mer, ensures continuity at sea with the Estérel and Pointe de l’Aiguille departmental nature parks.
As part of the promotion of the Estérel-Théoule Departmental Marine Park by the Cannes Lérins Conurbation, the Alpes-Maritimes Department and the town of Théoule-sur-Mer, numerous educational activities and summer events are on offer.

The park's partners

These partners are working together to ensure the balanced and sustainable development of socio-economic activities and to promote public access and awareness of the marine environment, while guaranteeing the conservation and preservation of habitats and biodiversity.

Maison du Parc Maritime
Promenade Pradayrol – 06590 Théoule sur Mer
Open in July and August from 9.30am to 6.30pm

Discover the shallows...

The Pointe de l’Aiguille underwater trail, created in 2006 by the Département des Alpes-Maritimes in partnership with the commune of Théoule-sur-Mer, is open to all from mid-June to mid-September.

The fauna and flora of the shallow waters can be observed on an individual basis, using submersible educational leaflets available from the Tourist Office, or as part of a guided aquatic walk after registering on the Department’s nature activities website.

Responsible practices

Recreational boaters

  • Prefer to anchor in sandy areas and raise the anchor level with the boat without horizontal tension: to help you, download the free ‘DONIA’ application (www.donia.fr) onto your smartphone to view the nature of the seabed in real time.
  • Respect the work of professional fishermen. Sail away from fishing gear marked with specific coloured beacons and boats in fishing condition.

Leisure fishing

Preserving the environment

  • Don’t throw your rubbish out to sea. Sort your rubbish and, once ashore, dispose of it in the bins provided.

Underwater landscapes of great diversity...

The marine coastline offers a mosaic of habitats conducive to significant biodiversity: shallow rock and pebble beds, sandbanks, Posidonia meadows and coralligenous rocks. Fragile habitats to be preserved…

Posidonia - a protected species

Posidonia is not a seaweed but a flowering plant that grows from the surface to a depth of 40 metres. It forms veritable ‘underwater forests’ called Posidonia meadows, which release almost 14 litres of oxygen per square metre every day. These beds are a source of food, shelter, spawning ground and nursery for more than 400 species of plant and several thousand species of animal. Over time, the seagrass builds up a tangle of rhizomes and roots clogged with sediments that form the ‘matte’, helping to stabilise the seabed and protect coasts and beaches against erosion.

The coralligenous

Coralligenous is the accumulation of calcareous algae forming a heterogeneous structure that supports numerous organisms. It is a truly colourful landscape, home to almost 1,700 species of plants and animals, including gorgonians and corals. It is also a shelter and a source of food for many fish. Requiring moderate light levels, coralligenous grows preferentially at depth, in the form of rocks or drop-offs.

Moorings for scuba diving...

In order to limit the damage caused by repeated anchoring in sensitive habitats (Posidonia meadows, coralligenous), the Alpes-Maritimes Department has set up two ecological moorings reserved for diving clubs, as part of the Departmental Plan for Spaces, Sites and Itineraries (PDESI).
